Custom Wine Display Under the Stairs Dallas Installation Project

Custom Wine Display Under the Stairs Dallas Installation Project by Wine Cellar Specialists

For wine lovers who are living in a small home or condo, there is another option for a full-sized wine cellar. In Dallas, Texas, a client of Wine Cellar Specialists wanted to build a custom wine display area under their staircase. See images and learn more about the features of the wine room.

A Wine Cellar Designed by a Master Builder for a Tiny Space Under the Stairs

Size does not matter when it comes to building the wine cellar of your dreams. Nowadays, a garage, walk-in closet, space under the stairs, or any extra space in your home can be utilized for your wine room project.

Wine Cellar Specialists is one of our dealers in wine cellar construction. They have been in the industry for many years, offering innovative wine storage solutions to clients in Dallas and San Antonio. They want their customers to have a wine cellar that is safe, unique, and matches their home.

Recently, a wine enthusiast, who lives in a condo in the Dallas area, wanted to build a wine storage area under the stairs. They sought the help of Wine Cellar Specialists for this project.

The stairs have bamboo steps with steel beams. The space in between each step was open.

CAD Drawings of the Wine Room

The main purpose of creating 3-dimensional drawings before the construction is to allow for a better visualization of the finished wine cellar. At Wine Cellar Specialists, they assess all the needs and requirements of the owner, so that they can create a perfect design.

The free drawings are usually in black and white, and show the plan views, bottle capacities, and the room’s dimension. In some cases, they may need to create colored drawings for a small fee.

On this under the stairs wine cellar installation project, they decided to provide colored drawings, in addition to the black and white images. This helped Wine Cellar Specialists in providing the client clearer options for the backer boards and wall colors.

They chose the gray walls, brushed aluminum pegs, and Alumasteel backer boards to match the steel beams of their staircase.

The creativity and passion of Wine Cellar Specialists inspired them to design and install a custom wine room for a high-end residential space. Regardless of space constraints, they always find a way to build a stellar custom wine display for their clients.

They want every wine rack system to provide the maximum bottle capacity. For this project, the original plan was to install single-deep wine racks. Later on, the client decided to have a double-deep racking system. This would maximize the space of the room, allowing for more bottle storage.

Modern Features of the Ultra Peg Wine Rack System

Building a contemporary wine cellar in a tiny space has been in demand in the United States, and even more so in Texas. The size and location of your room does not matter if you work with a trusted master builder.

Wine Cellar Specialists has been providing contemporary wine rack solutions using metal wine racks. This type of wine rack offers many benefits, both for residential and commercial applications.

Metal wine racks are very flexible. They can match any existing décor of your living space. They can also fit snugly in a tiny corner of a tiny space. They can be designed to create visually appealing custom wine displays. The design options are limitless.

At Wine Cellar Specialists, they offer stand-alone and wall mounted metal wine racks. For this wine cellar project, they installed the wall mounted Ultra Peg system.

High-Quality Material and Ease of Access

Ultra Pegs Two Deep with Rubber O-Rings Modern Wine Cellar

Ultra Pegs Two Deep with Rubber O-Rings Modern Wine Cellar Texas

The Ultra Peg System is a high-end wine storage solution that is made of durable and lightweight pegs. It displays and stores the bottles horizontally.

The main advantage of this bottle orientation is the convenience in finding a specific bottle of wine.

Since the wine labels are facing out, the owner can see the brand name, type, variety, alcohol content, and net contents. There is no need to pull out the bottle from the wine rack or flip it to see this  information.

Safety Feature and Ease of Installation

The Ultra Peg system used for this custom wine cellar installed in Dallas has rubber O-rings. These protect the client’s bottles from slipping out. Other types of metal wine racks don’t have this kind of safety feature.

Another advantage of this racking system is its ease of installation. The backer boards were already pre-drilled before the assembly and installation of the Ultra Peg racking on the construction site.

Cooling the Wine Room with an Efficient Cooling System

Wine deteriorates easily if it is stored in poor conditions. It can age properly in an environment where the temperature is between 55 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit and humidity levels from 60-70 percent. This condition can be achieved if a reliable cooling system is installed in your residential wine cellar.

If you don’t know what type, size, and brand of refrigeration system is suitable for your needs, an expert can help you.

Wine Cellar Refrigeration System Installation – Challenges and Considerations

Challenges in installing the wine cooling system did not hinder Wine Cellar Specialists from building a safe storage space for the client’s collection. On this project, they needed to find a way to prevent cutting or patching up the ceiling of the space under the stairs.

They decided to create a soffit on the lower level, which allowed them to run the lines across and out to the owner’s courtyard for the compressor.

The wine cooling unit was placed vertically between the studs of the left wall. Before adding 3 inches of foam, they built out the wall first.

The drain line had an irregular height. This posed another challenge for Wine Cellar Specialists. Installing a condensate pump within the cooling unit solved the problem.

The Ideal Type and Brand of Cooling System for a Small and Odd-Shaped Wine Room

For this wine cellar, the wine refrigeration unit used was the WM6600 manufactured by US Cellar Systems. This large size single wall mount unit is a perfect option for small wine rooms that are enclosed in glass.

The unit was powder coated to match the steel beams of the stairs and the wall paint as well.

Construction of a Beautiful Wine Cellar in a Home in Irvine, California

Written by

Coastal Custom Wine Cellars is one of the most trusted wine storage builders in California. They recently completed a construction project for a client in Irvine, a city in Orange County. They built a beautiful and uniquely designed residential wine room that can accommodate wines and other types of liquor. The builders used Redwood for the storage structure’s racks and shelves. Coastal teamed up with Arctic Metalworks Inc. for the installation of a ductless split type refrigeration system.

Wooden Racks and Wine Storage Cases Made from Lacquer Finished Redwood

Wine Cellar Redwood Racks Irvine CaliforniaThere are various types of wood on the market for making wooden wine racks and shelves. The type of wood that a cellar owner chooses will determine not only the durability of the storage structure, but also its aesthetic value. Coastal builds wooden wine cellars from the most popular materials, like Pine, Redwood, Sapele, Mahogany, and Walnut.

The team of wine storage experts from Coastal decided, together with the client, to use Redwood for the construction of the racking and the shelves. Redwood is a popular choice among homeowners because it is very durable. It has natural oils preserved in it that make it highly resistant to moisture and mildew. A lot of people love Redwood also because of its aesthetic qualities. Its soft earth tone colors are known to develop beautifully over time.

Redwood, if kept unstained or unfinished, is still gorgeous. This is why some people choose to use Redwood without any stain or finish. But the Irvine construction project client wanted his wooden racks and shelves to be lacquer finished. He asked the team from Coastal for advice, and the experts agreed with the client that applying a lacquer finish to the Redwood racks and shelves will enhance the color Wine Display Row LED Lighting Irvine Californiaof the material.

There are many kinds of finishes on the market. Shellac, polyurethane, lacquer, and varnish are a few of the most common types of finishes for wooden wine racks. Not all of these types of finishes are compatible with all kinds of wood species. It is imperative to consult with a wine storage specialist regarding the application of stains and finishes, so that the right product can be used.

Many people choose lacquer because it is very durable. It is also well-loved because it provides a stunning gloss to the wood that is applied to. As per the request of the client, the expert builders from Coastal applied lacquer on the wooden racks and shelves. The finish made the Redwood’s colors more pronounced, and this made the client very happy.

Wood stains and finishes should only be applied by a professional. Find a wine storage expert now by clicking here!

Wooden Shelves and Single Bottle Wine Racks Custom-Designed by Coastal

One of the reasons why this construction project was successful was the open communication between the client and the builder. The homeowner was freely contributing ideas to the contractors regarding the design of his wine room. For example, it was the client’s idea to install the wood storage cases on commercial rollers. The setup helped the client reach for bottles in the boxes conveniently. Instead of bending down, he simply pulled the shelves out by rolling them across the rollers.

Wooden Storage Cases Irvine CaliforniaCommercial wood cases come in various sizes. Some of these wooden boxes can accommodate three to twelve bottles, depending on the design. Coastal custom-designed the shelves in the Irvine residential wine cellar, so that the openings were large enough to accommodate wines of varying sizes, including standard champagnes, Oregon Pinots, Shiraz, Turley Zinfandels, and other large format bottles.

In one of the cellar’s shelves, a display row accented with LED lighting was added. The client loved the display row not only because it made his wine room look stellar, but also because it provided a convenient way to manage his stock. The wines in his collection can easily be organized by storing similar bottles above and below the display row.

Originally, the Irvine wine room had a mini cellar on one side, which was intended for storing whites, champagnes, and other bottles that needed to be stored at a cooler temperature. The client gave his mini cellar away some time ago. The area where the mini cellar stood became an empty space. The client called the team of builders from Coastal to come back and construct more single bottle storage racks, which will be used to fill the area where the mini cellar used to be.

Arctic Metalworks Inc. Installed a High-Quality HVAC System in the Irvine Residential Wine Cellar

Wine Cellar Cooling Unit Louvered Grill Irvine CaliforniaAn ideal wine cellar has to have an efficient cooling system installed. Without dependable HVAC equipment, a storage room cannot provide the required climate conditions that are needed to keep wines from spoiling. Custom wine cellars vary in many ways, like size and number of stock stored. These are a couple of the factors that should be considered when choosing a cooling unit for a storage room. Each wine room needs a different refrigeration system, and an HVAC expert should be consulted in order to determine the most suitable equipment for a storage space. For the Irvine residential wine cellar, a team of cooling experts from Arctic Metalworks Inc. installed a high grade ductless split type refrigeration system.

The technicians from Arctic Metalworks installed the HVAC system’s evaporating unit on the cellar wall, and they set up the condenser outdoors. This split type configuration made the client very happy because there was no hot air exhausted inside his house. Moreover, he was pleased that the evaporator operated quietly inside his cellar.

The evaporating unit was mechanical-looking in nature. The client did not want the HVAC system to be seen in his wine cellar, and so the builders made a wooden box for the unit and covered it with a louvered grill. The material used for the box and louvered grill was the same wood used for the racks and shelves.

A Master Builder Transformed a Basement into a Gorgeous Custom Wine Cellar in Vancouver

Written by

It’s not impossible to transform an area in your home into a unique storage space for your wines. Working with a reliable builder in Vancouver will ensure that your custom wine cellar will store and display your collection according to your specific requirements. Check out how Blue Grouse Wine Cellars built an eye-catching wine room in a basement.

A Reliable Builder Designed and Built an Elegant and Functional Wine Room in a Basement

Custom Centre Island of Sapele Mahogany Wine Cellar

Custom Center Island of Sapele Mahogany Wine Cellar

If you are collecting wines, the first thing that you must consider is providing them with a safe storage space where they can age gracefully.

A stable environment will help wine preserve its complex taste and aroma, allowing it to reach its peak maturation before it is consumed. This will let you enjoy every bottle of your favorite vintage.

For many homeowners, the aesthetic appeal of their wine cellar also matters. They want their collections to be displayed dramatically, according to their personal preference.

A safe storage space and beautiful wine display are the reasons why many residential owners invest in a climate-controlled custom wine cellar. In addition, if you have a growing collection, converting a space in your home can be the best solution.

Blue Grouse Wine Cellars, one of our partners in building custom wine cellars, recently completed an installation project in Vancouver.

Transformation of a Basement into a Visually Appealing Home Wine Cellar

Wine Cellar Room Before Construction Began

Wine Cellar Room Before Construction Began

After a careful assessment of the client’s needs, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars created custom 3-dimensional drawings that showed the dimensions of the room, different elevations, and plan views.

They made sure that the room can achieve optimum conditions by sealing it and installing an efficient wine cooling system. They installed beautiful, high quality wine racks made from wood and metal.

The basement had a couple of wine cabinets and a heavy pool table in it, which were transferred to a room upstairs before the construction began.

One of the challenges in this Vancouver home wine cellar project was the window to the outdoors. Light must be prevented from coming through the window because it can damage wine. To achieve this, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars built a wall in front of it.

Insulating the Wine Room and Installing an Efficient Cooling System to Protect Wine

ONAM wine cellar cooling unit CW-30W

ONAM CW-30W Water-Cooled Wine Cellar Cooling Unit

After the client’s approval, they started the construction by installing the proper insulation. Insulating the walls and ceiling will prevent the warm air from entering and the cool air from escaping the room. The absence of proper insulation will negatively affect the quality of the wine.

Additionally, this can also result in the breakdown of your cooling unit and higher energy bills, because it will work harder due to the warm air that interferes with the cooling process.

Blue Grouse Wine Cellars needed to take down the drywall on the walls and ceiling because the original room was not built to be a wine cellar. After installing the insulation, they put up the new type of drywall, which was intended for a refrigeration wine storage area.

They also used the same process of insulating and dry walling the room that can be accessed through a small door. This space is located under the stairs, and Blue Grouse made it a “secret” wine storage space to provide additional bottle capacity.

In addition to insulation, they also installed a reliable refrigeration unit. The ONAM CW30-W water-cooled cooling system was the ideal choice for the wine cellar. This self-contained unit did not require an HVAC professional to do the installation.

Wine Racks – Combining Wood and Metal to Create a Unique Wine Display

Blue Grouse Wine Cellars aims to create a wine rack system that will display their client’s collection beautifully and safely. In this project, the owner is a high-end wine collector who wanted a traditional yet contemporary home wine cellar.

With their extensive experience, passion, and creativity, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars was able to create a stylish wine storage space using wood and metal to satisfy their client’s needs.

Classic Sapele Mahogany Wooden Wine Racks

Quarter Round Display Shelf and Racking

Custom Wooden Wine Racks

Wine collectors who want a traditional wine room should opt for wooden storage racks. At Blue Grouse Wine Cellars, they offer various types of wood to cater to the specific needs of their customers.

In this project, they used Sapele, a hardwood species that belongs to the Mahogany family. It is widely used by many builders to add drama to a living space because of its attractive grain patterns and natural luster.

It is harder than other wood varieties because of its interlocking grain pattern. Other properties of Sapele Mahogany that make it an ideal material for wine cellar racks include the ability to withstand humid conditions. It also has a high resistance to rot and has superior stability.

The wooden wine racks were not lacquered or stained because the owner wanted a scent-free Vancouver custom wine cellar.

Various Racking Styles to Create an Elegant Wine Display

Blue Grouse Wine Cellars has extensive experience in providing innovative storage solutions to wine enthusiasts. In this project, they incorporated different bottle orientations to store the client’s collection in a unique way and provide added functionality.

Elevation B

Wood Racking Wine Cellar Drawings Vancouver Project

Elevation B Wine Cellar Drawing Vancouver Installation Project

The first racking that greets you as you enter the wine room from the basement hallway is labeled Elevation B. It starts with a 5-level quarter round display rack, which allows for bottles to be displayed vertically. It also provides a space for storing wine glasses, decanters, and other accessories.

The next wine rack is intended for single bottle storage at the top section and a display row in the middle. This row stores the bottle at a 15-degree angle to prevent the cork from drying out. The cork will become brittle if it dries out. When this happens, an unwanted amount of oxygen can get in the bottle and cause the wine to be oxidized. Oxidation will spoil the wine and causes a waste of investment.

At the bottom section is where the hidden storage area is located. Blue Grouse Wine Cellars covered it with a removable wooden louvered grill to make it look like part of the racking. A wine refrigeration unit and proper insulation were installed to ensure that optimum storage conditions are achieved. There are wooden case lattice racks and half lattice diamond bins on both sides of the secret wine room.

Elevations A and E

To provide the client a convenient area for decanting and serving wine, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars created an open area with a wide tabletop at the center. Individual bottle and label forward display racks were installed on both sides of the open area.

The center of the bottom section consists of lattice diamond bins, half diamond bins, and case storage racks on both sides.

The next wall is Elevation E, which consists of the same bottle orientations as Elevation B. The only different is that it has no quarter round display rack.

Elevations C and D

When you enter the door from the outdoors, you will see Elevation D, located on the right wall. Half lattice and wood case storage can be found at the bottom and a display row at the middle section. More individual bottle openings were added at the top section of the racking.

The next wall is Elevation C, which faces the door. The wine rack, which is 54 1/4 inched deep, hides the wine cooling unit in a custom cabinet at the bottom. It also provides a horizontal display area for six large format bottles.

Cotemporary Metal Wine Racks from Vintage View

Incorporating metal racking satisfied the desire of the client to have a traditional and modern wine cellar.  A 3-column single-deep metal wine rack from VintageView was installed on the left wall when you enter from the hallway.

A 4-column triple-deep VintageView wine rack is on the left wall when you enter the wine room through the door from the outside.

The sleek metal wine storage units were finished in Satin Black.

Smart Choice of Wine Cellar Cooling System and Racking Design for a California Home

Standard air conditioners don’t have the capacity to maintain a stable environment which is required for wine. A wine refrigeration system manufactured by a highly reputable company should be installed in your wine room to prevent damaging the quality of your wine.

In California, Coastal Custom Wine Cellars used a CellarPro cooling unit in building a beautiful home wine cellar. They also have competent experts of wine cellar service providers in Orange County. Learn how they transformed a playroom into a wine storage display that has style and elegance, using custom features.

Home Wine Cellar Cooling and Racking Solution for a California Home

On the 23rd of July 2015, Coastal Custom Wine Cellars began the construction project for a home in Anaheim Hills, California. The clients had a large basement where their children’s playroom was located.

They wanted to transform it into a climate-controlled wine cellar using wood and metal racks. They also wanted to add a cigar humidor within the racking. Read on to find out how this was accomplished.

Protecting the Client’s Collection by Using an Efficient Wine Cellar Cooling System

Master wine cellar builders don’t just use a home air conditioning system for their client’s wine room. Wine easily spoils when it is kept in a poor environment.

Coastal Custom Wine Cellars, a trusted partner of WholeCellar, have been using CellarPro cooling solutions in their projects in California, Maryland, and New Jersey. We work together to install the appropriate wine cellar refrigeration system to achieve the optimum storage conditions.

Wine Cellar Insulation

Home Wine Cellar Insulation California Project

At Coastal Custom Wine Cellars, it is their utmost consideration to preserve the quality of your wine until it is consumed because, for them, your happiness is their happiness. They take time and effort to prevent extreme changes in temperature and humidity levels which can ruin your wine. Imagine enjoying the complex flavor and aroma of the wine that has reached its peaked maturation in your refrigerated wine cellar.

Coastal Custom Wine Cellars insulated the walls and ceiling to ensure that there was no air leakage to or from the wine cellar. With proper insulation, wine storage problems can be avoided. Additionally, it will prevent the cooling unit from working harder than it should. Meaning, creating an airtight seal will not only protect the wine’s quality, but can also help reduce energy consumption.

Wine Cellar Cooling System

California Wine Cellar Cooling System

California Wine Cellar Cooling System

In this installation project in Anaheim Hills, California, Coastal Custom Wine Cellars conducted a heat load calculation to analyze the BTU (British Thermal Unit) requirement because the room had to be enclosed in glass and it is nearly 1,300 cubic feet. In running a heat load, temperature changes and the size of the room must be considered.

They used  the CellarPro 8000S ductless split wine cellar cooling system. The wall-mounted evaporator was placed inside the cellar while the condenser was placed outdoors.

To protect the condenser from weather conditions, they added an exterior housing.

Glass Walls and Door

Seamless glass walls and door are recommended for collectors who want to have a good view of their wines from outside the cellar. Additionally, glass panels also add a modern appeal to any living space. Coastal Custom Wine Cellars used tempered glass panels, and they had to install the frameless glass very carefully to create an airtight seal around the door.

Coastal Custom Wine Cellars offers a free 3-dimensional design package. These drawings include the perimeter of the room, different elevations, plan views, and bottle capacities, which allow the owner to visualize their dream wine cellar before the build begins.

For this room conversion project, they have designed a wine rack system that can store up to 2,055 bottles.

Metal Racking Design

On the wall where the door is located, they installed floor-to-ceiling height metal storage racks from Vintage View. This section can hold up to 852 bottles. One of the advantages of using Vintage View metal wine racks is the convenience in finding a certain type of wine because they display the bottles in a label forward orientation. You don’t need to pull out a bottle just to see the label.

The open airflow design of these wine racks distributes the liquid temperature more efficiently. The metal wine rack system is recommended for those who want to achieve a contemporary appeal in their California home wine cellar.

Wooden Wine Racks

California Contemporary Wine Cellar Design

Contemporary Wine Cellar Racking with Cigar Humidor California

When you enter the room, you will see that the left wall starts with a quarter round display wooden wine rack. This storage unit has five shelves, which provides an excellent storage place for some of the owner’s favorite vintages and wine accessories.

The next set racking consists of diamond bins at the bottom. The top section has a tabletop for decanting and serving wine.

Back Wall Wine Rack with Cigar Humidor

The back wall is where the core racking was installed directly across from the metal racks on the glass wall. Coastal Custom Wine Cellars combined various orientations to add character to the overall design.

The top section stores the bottles individually. The center of the back wall racking has an open area. It provides a space for the wine glasses, where the owner can hang them upside down in a stem rack. This design allowed Coastal Custom Wine Cellars to hide the evaporator that was used to cool the playroom.

Both sides of the open area consist of a display row with lighting. The bottom section has double-deep wine racks with a tabletop for decanting wines. Most of the openings are intended for 750ml bottles.  Both sides of the bottom racking consist of a double-deep wood case storage.

Cigar Humidor Anaheim California Custom Wine Cellar Project

Cigar Humidor Anaheim California Custom Wine Cellar Project

The double-deep cigar humidor cabinet is located just below the open area at the center of the back wall. Unlike California home wine cellars, which require about 55-65 degrees Fahrenheit to preserve the quality of wine, cigar humidors need a warmer environment.

Therefore, they installed weather stripping on all sides of the cabinet door to achieve a bit higher temperature in it, about 70 degrees.

Coastal lined the humidor with Spanish Cedar because this wood variety can help create a higher temperature and humidity level in the cabinet.

Coastal Custom Wine Cellars created a 4-level tray on the left cabinet. The lowest level has a tray for displaying the owner’s cigars individually. On the right is a standard cabinet where other items can be displayed.

In their recent project, they converted a tiny room into a sophisticated wine storage display. Learn more about the custom features of this Texas home wine cellar.

Building a Wine Cellar in a Limited Space

Limited space is one of the common problems faced by many wine lovers who desire to build a functional wine room in their home. Traditionally, wine cellars are located in basements to provide wine a cool environment necessary for aging.

Nowadays, a refrigerated wine cellar can be installed almost anywhere in your home such as the garage, closet, or under the stairs. An expert in wine room construction can provide a turnkey solution to the unique requirements of their clients.

Wine Cellar Specialists, a master builder in Texas, completed the installation of an attractive wine storage facility in Colleyville. They have been our partner in wine cellar construction for many years. They offer products and services that suit the unique needs of every wine enthusiast.

Custom Features of the Wine Rack System

Wine racks are not only storage units for one’s wine collection, but are also one of the factors that affect the overall appearance of a Texas home wine cellar. For these reasons, your wine racks must be manufactured using durable and appealing materials. Additionally, they must also be designed with functionality and creativity.

In this wine room conversion project, Wine Cellar Specialists designed and installed the wine racks, refrigeration system, door, flooring, walls, and ceilings. They took into account many factors to ensure that everything suited the room’s location and size, and the client’s personal preference and budget.

Visually Appealing Wooden Wine Racks with Grapevine Design

Custom Wine Cellar Designed Drawers and Cooperage Tabletop and Racking

There are important considerations in creating a wine rack design. Wine Cellar Specialists spent quality time to know the aesthetic and functional requirements of the homeowner.

They used racking styles and included custom features that would suit the mood that the client wanted to achieve.

The design was also created according to the number of bottles intended to be stored in this Texas wine cellar.

Combining Various Wine Rack Styles to Create an Eye-Catching Storage Display

Known as a top-notch wine cellar builder, the team of Wine Cellar Specialists always sees to it that every design they create is incorporated with bottle orientations that create elegant and unique wine display. In this project, they combined different wine rack styles to achieve this.

Display Wine Racks with LED Lights in Texas Custom Wine Cellar

The left sidewall has three rows of single bottle storage slots at the top section. Below this racking are two display rows. The first row is a low reveal display and the bottom row is a high reveal display. LED tape lighting was installed above each display row.

On the left of the individual wine rack is a window between two half-height, quarter round display racks. These quarter round storage units sit on a tabletop located below the window to the kitchen. The tabletop is made of engineered planks from reclaimed wine barrels. Two case storage bins and more single bottle storage racks were added to the bottom section of the left wall.

Just like the left wall, the right wall also consists of two display rows in the middle section. Additional slots for individual bottle storage were added to the top and bottom sections.

Texas Wine Cellar Prokect Back Wall Wine Racks with Tile Mural

Texas Wine Cellar Prokect Back Wall Wine Racks with Tile Mural

The focal point of this small, yet beautiful wine room is the wine rack at the back wall. Wine Cellar Specialists used an elegant solid arch incorporated with a grapevine design. They added a glass rack and slots for magnum bottles on both sides of the arch. As an additional custom feature, they also added a tumbled marble tile behind the arch. The tile matches the classic appeal of wooden wine racks.

To add functionality to this Texas wine cellar, they installed another reclaimed wine barrel tabletop with two drawers below it. The drawers were also carved with a grapevine design on the front to match the solid arch. Each of these drawers has a handle pull equipped with a European style self-closing slide hardware, which came from the Vineyard Collection hardware of Wine Specialists.

The bottom section of the back wall was installed with a diamond solid bin wine rack. This type of rack is ideal for storing wines in bulk.

Attractive and Durable Material for the Wine Racks

In addition to the design of your wine rack system, another factor that helps achieve an appealing wine storage display for a home is the material used to construct your wine racks.

Wood and metal are the most widely-used materials in manufacturing wine racks.

Most wine cellar builders recommend the wooden wine racks for residential owners who love the classic appeal of wood. Wooden wine racks are not only beautiful, but durable as well.

In this conversion project, Wine Cellar Specialists used Premium Redwood for the wine racks. This wood variety exhibits a reddish color with streaks that add character to the wine racks.

A Perfect Choice for the Flooring of a Home Wine Cellar Built in Texas

There are many factors that can help achieve the ideal environment needed by wine to age properly. One of these factors is the wine cellar flooring, which should also be chosen carefully for aesthetic and functional purposes.

Wine Cellar Specialists always recommends the addition of an eco-friendly feature in their client’s wine room. In this project, they used Cooperage flooring. It is a style of flooring, which makes use of reclaimed wine barrels. In this style of flooring, the wood pieces come from the top and bottom sections of used barrels. The wooden planks are engineered to create flooring that displays the unique stamps and markings of the barrels.

Just like the walls and ceiling, the flooring was installed with the proper insulation to prevent warm air from mixing with the cool air inside the wine cellar. Proper insulation helps regulate the conditions in wine storage facilities.

Unique and Cost-Effective Walls and Ceilings

Another feature that makes this Texas home wine cellar stand out is the Stonecoat design on the walls and ceiling. Stonecoat is a material made of crushed limestone from France. To create a gorgeous stone effect, the material is blown onto the surface and hand carved. It is then colored according to the client’s preference.

Cooling the Cellar with a Wine Refrigeration System

The most important component of a wine room is the cooling system. Its function is very important in helping wine achieve proper maturation before it is consumed.

Wine Cellar Specialists used a ducted self-contained wine cooling unit by Wine Guardian. It was placed in a conditioned space in the attic, creating minimal noise.

Do you have an unused space in your home? Why not convert it into something useful?

All you need to do is hire a master builder who can design your wine cellar creatively, and install the right components to ensure the proper storage of wine.

Investing in a refrigerated wine cellar offers many benefits. It will protect your wine collection from damaging factors. If designed with creativity, it can also enhance the beauty of your home. We recommend a custom design for those who want to create a stunning wine storage display.

Wine Cellar Specialists, one of our trusted partners in wine cellar construction, has recently completed an installation project in a city located northwest of Dallas. They added custom features to the design to create a unique wine cellar and an adjoining tasting room. They also made sure that the room has an airtight seal to keep the wine’s complex flavor and aroma for years to come.

The Office Space that was Transformed into a Lovely Texas Wine Cellar

The room that would be converted into a custom wine cellar was an office space in Flower Mound, Texas with green walls and built in cabinets. Wine Cellar Specialists created a 3D design after making a careful assessment of the room’s size, shape, and location. They also took into account the client’s aesthetic and functional requirements.  The overhead plan view shows the different elevations: A, B, C, and D.

Sidewalls

High Reveal Display Row

Left Wall Racking Flower Mound Texas Wine Room

The sidewalls (elevation A) consist of individual bottle slots at the top section and solid diamond bins at the bottom. The middle section is a high reveal display row that stores the bottles at a 15-degree angle.

This bottle orientation allows the owner to highlight some of his favorite vintages. Additionally, it also helps keep the cork moist by allowing the wine to be in contact with the cork.

When dried out, the cork might get brittle and shrink, causing an unwanted amount of air to mix with the wine. This can affect the wine’s taste and aroma.

Corner Walls

To achieve a smooth transition from one wall to another, a true-radius curved corner wine rack was installed on each end of the back wall. The high reveal display row, which lines the length of the whole racking, is installed with a light valance above it.

Back Wall

At the back wall (elevation C) of this home wine cellar, Wine Cellar Specialists included a solid arch at the center. There is a puck light installed above it. Above the arch are horizontal wine racks that can accommodate magnum size bottles. The rest of the top racking consists of storage slots for individual bottles.

There is a tabletop installed from the left to the right corner of the back wall. It is made from the inner portions of reclaimed wine barrels.

It is called the Infusion style tabletop, which exhibits the color of the wines that were once stored in the barrels. Since no two barrel planks are exactly the same, this feature added a unique touch to the custom wine cellar in Flower Mound, Texas.

Below the tabletop are six double deep X-bins. There are six rolling case storage slots below the X-bins, which provide quick access to the cases stored at the back areas.

Quality and Attractive Wood Variety for the Wine Racks

For wine collectors who want to achieve a classic look in their wine rooms, wooden wine racks are recommended. Wood’s natural beauty can enhance the beauty of a wine cellar. They can also go well with the existing décor of your living space.

In this project, Wine Cellar Specialists used All Heart Redwood for the storage racks. In addition to its natural beauty, this type of wood is stable, and highly resistant to shrinkage, insects, molds, and mildew. In addition, it has natural wood preservatives that make it a favorite material in wine rack construction.

All Heart Redwood is ideal for refrigerated custom wine cellars in Flower Mound, Texas because it has the ability to withstand the extreme changes in temperature and humidity.

Wine Cellar Library Ladder

Your wine cellar should not only keep your wine safe and beautify your home, but it should also provide convenience in accessing your bottles.

In this project, a library ladder was included to allow the owner quick access to wines stored in high areas of the racking. It is made from All Heart Redwood, coated with chocolate brown powder, and comes with Starburst wheels. The ladder rail is attached to a 4-inch solid wood panel on the racking.

Wine Tasting Room and Bar Area

Wine Cellar Specialists built an adjoining wine tasting room and bar area. This is a great addition to the home, allowing the owner to have a nice area for entertaining friends and hosting wine tasting parties.

The walls and ceiling of the tasting room is designed with Stonecoat. This a material made from crushed limestone that is blown on to the surface. After the application, it is then hand carved and colored according to the client’s preference.

Made from Knotty Alder, the home bar consists of open shelves on the left and right sides. The shelves have racks for the glassware. There is a lighted cabinet at the center of the bar. The bottom section has a built-in refrigerator (Uline brand 3036 model) with two drawers above it. The refrigerator has solid cabinets on both sides.

The glass panels are dual paned. The wine cellar door is equipped with full weather stripping and an automatic door bottom.

The entrance to the wine tasting room is constructed with a double wrought iron gate. It was manufactured in Oil Rubbed Bronze and comes with a Victorian Style handle set and lock.

Whole Cellar has been enjoying one heck of a 2015, and it’s with good reason: we’ve recently been awarded Best in Design Best in Customer Service by Houzz this year! Winning one award is an achievement in itself, but winning two? Well, we must be doing something right if we’re included in two categories in the Best of Houzz 2015 list!

So, how deserving do you think we are of those awards? Well, you be the judge below!

Remodeling and Home Design

Best in Design

Out of the many projects that we have posted on our Houzz profile, one of those which grabbed the Houzz community’s attention is our Cape Cod project in Boston. This particular wine cellar houses almost 1800 wine and champagne bottles—some of which are stored in high-reveal display cases—while also allotting enough space in the center table where people can come in to taste wine at a leisurely pace.

The Cape Cod job, in essence, perfectly exemplifies the modern Whole Cellar design philosophy: we still maintain a sharp eye for aesthetics, but we never sacrifice functionality for it. This is why we have obtained the positive reputation we have, not just on Houzz, but on just about any state we have worked in.

Our stellar work ethic had also encouraged new clients to contact us simply because of our reputation on Houzz. Many of them, however, did not have an inkling of how they would be able to have a wine cellar built in the first place. Thankfully, we were more than happy to assist any new clients who simply wanted to have a wine cellar installed in their homes. This is the reason why we also won Houzz’s Best in Customer Service award.

Best in Customer Service

Customer feedback, more than anything else, determines the success or failure of a business nowadays. That is why we make it a point that providing an optimal customer experience is a major factor that defines Whole Cellar as a brand.

Many of the clients we have worked with, in fact, do not lead the kind of “affluent” lifestyle many people associate with clients contracting us for their wine cellar projects. Rather, a good number of them are middle-class homeowners just wanting to have their own wine cellar that adds value to their property while still remaining affordable.

In this case, this is where a project like a closet-to-wine storage conversion in Texas demonstrates the kind of attention we give to our clients. Since the space afforded to us was limited to the confines of a closet, we had to find a way to work within the boundaries of the room given to us. Happily, the client found the finished product suited his preferences exactly.

A Wine Cellar for Every Homeowner

Gone are the days when building a wine cellar for one’s home was defined by an impossibly high barrier to entry. Nowadays, residential wine rooms are seen as much a part of the household as the bedroom or the dining room. The modern wine cellar now has the capability of serving multiple purposes other than simply being a room to store one’s wine collection. We can now say that wine cellars are truly made for everyone.

For everyone who has helped us attain the recognition from Houzz by voting us in for these prestigious categories, thank you very much from the bottom of our hearts. We hope to match, or even exceed, the high expectations of quality you expect from a product or service produced by Whole Cellar.

A Successful Newport Beach California Wine Closet Conversion

Written by

Closet conversion is becoming popular in the design and construction industry.  Many home owners are considering having a vacant small or large space in their home converted into something useful.

One residential owner in Newport Beach contacted a California wine cellar builder to request help in converting his closet into a custom wine cellar.  The client wanted a wine storage and display space that was both functional, and elegant.

Newport Beach California Wine Closet Project Site

Newport Beach California Wine Closet Project Site

Vintage Wine Cellars, the California wine cellar builder that the client contacted, came up with a gorgeous custom wine cellar design.  It featured a stunning wine rack design to store and display wine bottles, a wine cellar cooling system to cool the wines, a glass wine cellar door, and matching wine cellar flooring.

Wine Rack Design Features

The wine storage and display racks are a combination of several different wine rack designs, including:

  • Single bottle storage wine racks
  • Horizontal display wine racks
  • High reveal display rows
  • Arched tabletop
  • Diamond bin cases
  • Rectangular bins

Single Bottle Storage Racks and Rectangular Bins

Single Bottle Storage Racks and Rectangular Bins

The single bottle storage wooden wine racks store 750 ml wine bottles individually, in cubicles with 3 ¾ inche openings, which are perfect for easy bottle access.  The bottle holders on each cubicle are hand sanded, to protect wine labels from scratches.

The horizontal display storage with a high reveal display row runs on the entire length of the walls.  This feature angles the wine bottles at 15 degrees, keeping the corks moist and the bottle tightly sealed.  An LED lighting fixture was also added, to illuminate the angled wine bottles on the display row.

At the center of the wine closet is a tabletop with an archway, where wine pouring or decanting can be done.  It features a lovely art piece, which is highlighted by a puck lighting.

At the bottom of the tabletop are solid diamond bins, which store wine bottles one on top of the other.  Diamond bins are ideal for bulk wine storage.

At the side of the wine closet are rectangular bins, which maximize the small storage space.  This wine racking style gives the wine collector an option to store wines by group (by variety, origin, size, age, etc.). This wine rack design is a wise option for storing 1.5L and 3L bottles.

The wooden wine racks are made of Premium Redwood, one of the best wood types used in the wine racking industry.  A dark walnut stain was applied to the wooden wine racks.  The natural aesthetic appeal of the stained redwood adds beauty to the wine cellar.

The total storage capacity of this wine closet is 840 wine bottles.

Efficient Cooling using a Fully-Ducted Wine Cellar Cooling Unit

Wine Cellar Cooling Unit Installed in the Attic

Wine Cellar Cooling Unit Installed in the Attic

This Newport Beach California wine closet is highly functional, as it is equipped with a wine cellar cooling system.  This maintains the right balance of temperature and humidity inside the wine closet.

Vintage Wine Cellars installed a fully ducted wine cellar cooling unit from Wine Guardian.  It is a self-contained wine cellar cooling system, and it can be installed either indoors or outdoors.

For this Newport Beach California wine closet, the cooling unit was installed indoors, in the attic located just above the wine cellar.  The wine cellar cooling system is assembled in a platform with a drain pan.

The duct system of this wine cellar cooling unit supplies cool air into the wine cellar and exhausts hot air outside. A louvered grill that matches the wooden wine racks covers the cooling unit.

Wine Cellar Entryway and Flooring that Attractively Matches with the Wine Racks

Barolo Glass Wine Cellar Door

Barolo Glass Wine Cellar Door

The cellar door used is a Barolo style dual-paned glass wine cellar door.

This entryway has two door openings, and it has certain features that ensure a tight seal to the room, and these include weather stripping and a concealed door bottom.

The wine cellar door was coated with a Chestnut wood stain, creating a beautiful contrast against the Premium Redwood wine racks.

To enhance the look of the wine cellar, the owner chose a unique tile flooring. The color scheme of the flooring matches charmingly with the wooden wine racks.

Wine Cellars by Coastal & Arctic Metalworks Yorba Linda California Project – A Processed Video Transcription

Custom Wine Cellar Yorba Lina CA by Coastal with Wine Cellar Refrigeration by Arctic
.

Hello!

I’d like to take you on a short video tour of a custom wine cellar Yorba Linda CA project recently completed by Coastal Custom Wine Cellars.

The project is located in Orange County, Yorba Linda, California, actually.

We partnered with Arctic Metalworks who provided the wine cellar refrigeration components for the enclosure; and, we also partnered with David Lincoln Construction who provided all the general contractor services.

The Original Wine Storage Area - Yorba Linda

The Original Wine Storage Area – Yorba Linda

So, as you can see we had a small niche to work within this home.  This is about roughly eight-foot wide, I believe eight-foot tall and 30 inches deep.

I’ll take you to a series of photographs that will show you the progress as we move forward towards completion and I’ll also take you on a tour of our three-dimensional design package that’s offered to everyone who visits Coastal.

As you can see, we had a niche here; we took this particular niche, we demoed it, we sealed the area to protect the home from dust.

Before this beautiful brick veneer was placed on the walls, behind the walls we have our vapor barrier, our insulation, all the electrical was roughed in as well as the mechanical line set, the refrigeration lines and the condensate drain line.

Wine Cellar Refrigeration Yorba Linda CA Installation

Now, this particular enclosure called for a split wine cellar refrigeration system.

So, outside the wine enclosure is a remote condenser; inside the wine enclosure is your fan coil, cold air supply and the cold air return.

This also has a remote LED controller or thermostat, that one can monitor the temperature inside the wine cellar.

The Wine Cellar Design

Let’s take a look at the actual wine cellar design.

Once we have a consultation with the customer to determine how many bottles they want to display, some of the features that they want to include in the display, we created a three-dimensional wine cellar design package.

This is an overhead view of the small area.  Actually, it’s just under 6 feet wide, 28 inches deep and the height is just under 8-foot and 94 inches.

The Wine Cellar Design Yorba Linda Project

The Wine Cellar Design Yorba Linda Project

The total bottle capacity for the enclosure: 392 bottles.

So, let’s take a look at the elevation itself.

As you can see, from the side view here on the right of the bottom half is double-deep, which means you can place the bottle into an opening, push it to the back of the component and place another bottle in front of that; and, we used, on the top portion above the countertop level, a single-deep storage and display area.

So, at the left is the tabletop area while they set things down while managing the wines or opening the bottles of wine.

The Wine Racks

Custom Wine Racks

So, we’ll start from the bottom.  All of the wine racks rest on an inch and a half toe-kick which elevates the components off the floor, of course.

Now, we’ll use a beautiful base trim as well as a crown molding at the top.

To the far left and to the far right we’ve got bin storage or bulk storage for case locks, ordered or flanked to either side of this beautiful diamond bin, we’ve got a single column, single vertical column, or single bottle storage.

Above that, more single bottle storage with a high reveal display row and to the far left and to the far right the folks wanted a cabinet for some liquors, glasses, even small drawers for accoutrements such as cork screws and napkins.

This area just above the arch area is a lattice grill box with an operable grill cover.  This is what’s concealing the mechanical appearance of the fan coil that we looked at a few moments ago.

Wine Racks Yorba Linda

With that said, we’ll look into some of these different features here that we spoke of.

These are the small cabinets to the left and to the right and the drawer here, and the high reveal display row.

This is the square bins on the left and the single bottle, or single vertical column, I spoke of as well as the diamond bins and the beautiful front view of the area.

This wine cellar’s entire front was a seamless glass entry door, which turned out quite beautiful.

Thank you for visiting Coastal Custom Wine Cellars.

Limited Budget Should Not Hold You Back from Having a San Antonio Texas Custom Wine Cellar

Written by

Do you think you can provide a proper wine storage space for your collection if you have a limited budget? The answer is YES! A reliable wine cellar builder can help you establish the appropriate budget for your project. Find out how a master builder in San Antonio helped their client build an affordable custom wine cellar.

budget for wine cellarYou can Have a Custom Home Wine Cellar on a Budget

Scared of going over their budget, some homeowners opt for cheap wine coolers, or wine refrigerators to store their wine.  But keep in mind that unlike wine cellars, these units cannot protect your wines intended for long-term aging. They are not designed to stabilize both the temperature and humidity required to maintain wine’s quality.

Although a bit more expensive, a climate-controlled custom home wine cellar is highly recommended for long-term storage. It is equipped with a refrigeration system that will protect wine from being damaged by temperature fluctuations and wrong humidity levels.

wine cellar vs wine cooler

In addition to maintaining the ideal environment for wine, having your own home wine room also allows more storage capacity. It also adds value to your property.

Wine Cellar Specialists, a trusted designer and builder, can create a unique wine storage room that fits your financial requirements. They have been in the industry for many years, helping wine lovers fulfill their dream of having an affordable Texas residential wine room.

Transforming a Room into a Functional Wine Cellar

Philips wine cellar owner

In San Antonio, Texas, the Philips family wanted to have their own custom wine cellar where they could store their favorite vintages in the right conditions. They approached Wine Cellar Specialists, believing in the company’s ability to complete the project successfully, while staying under budget, and meeting their aesthetic requirements.

To ensure that proper storage conditions are created, every component must be carefully planned, designed and installed. Thorough planning ensures that the clients will be happy with the overall functionality and look of their wine cellar. Wine Cellar Specialists excel at this step in the design process, one of the reasons that their clients are always so thrilled with the end product.

To achieve the goals of the clients many important elements had to be planned for, elements you can be watching for when planning your custom wine room project. An expert building for wine storage will plan to insulate and cool the space specifically for wine cellars. They’ll take into account the custom features and racking options that best fit the particular client. All of these elements were accounted for in this San Antonio project.

Insulation

Philips Wine Cellar Insulation

Room insulation should not be taken for granted. Any room that will be equipped with a cooling system needs to be insulated before the installation of wine racks, flooring, and lighting. This will provide a seal to the room, preventing mold growth and other external factors that can ruin wine. Without the proper seal, you might spend more in the future due to the breakdown of your wine cooling unit, and high energy consumption.

For this project, the room was framed, and electrical components were added prior to the insulation of walls and ceilings using closed cell foam. Undesirable humidity and temperature fluctuations can be avoided if the vapor barrier and insulator are installed properly, leaving no gaps in the walls.

custom wine racking Philips wine cellarKit Wine Racking

In addition to choosing a trusted San Antonio, Texas wine cellar builder, using kit wine racks also help the builder stay under budget. Kit or ready-built wine racks were installed in the back wall and curved corners of the room. The back wall consists of individual racks and a solid diamond bin with arch and extenders.

Custom Component in a Custom Wine Cellar in San Antonio, Texas

custom wine racks Philips wine room

Custom features were incorporated into the wine cellar design, adding visual appeal to the custom wine storage room.

One of these is the waterfall display styled custom wine rack found on the left wall, which stores the bottles in a way that allows the labels to face up.

The solid diamond bins below it allow for bulk storage. This design is also perfect for storing large format and odd-shaped bottles.

Another custom feature of the wine room can be found on the right wall. The custom wine racking was designed to accommodate bottles individually, and allows for maximum airflow between bottles.

There are also solid diamond bins below the individual storage rack.

The Cooling Equipment

Wine Cellar Specialists San AntonioIn every project, Wine Cellar Specialists always makes sure that the most suitable cooling system is provided to their clients. For the Philips wine cellar, a refrigeration unit from CellarPro was chosen. Installed in an adjacent mechanical room, the wine cooling unit is designed for a quiet operation, and excellent performance.
