Maryland Homeowners Turn to Wine Cellars to Grow Home Value

Written by

Since the housing bubble burst, homeowners have adjusted their expectations concerning how to grow the value of their home.  It’s no longer adequate to throw a fresh coat of paint on the walls and flip it. Now, more than ever, Maryland homeowners are turning to wine cellar builders to help them increase the value of their home.

Wine—A Growing Market in Maryland

Wine is growing in popularity in the state of Maryland. There are now over 400 wines made in the state. Wineries in the area are also are growing in reputation with over 60 wineries to visit in the area.

Wine Cellar Baltimore

A beautiful wine cellar in a luxury home.

But anyone who understands wine will tell you that you can’t just put that fine bottle in the back of a closet and leave it there for years and expect it to grow in quality. Proper storage means maintaining a constant cool temperature in your wine room. It’s no surprise that the new trend in luxury home modification is the addition of custom wine rooms.

Build Your Own Wine Cellar

In the good old days the common method of thinking when it came to growing your home value was to remodel the kitchen, adding granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances. A home theater or hot tub was also a welcome addition. But now it’s not uncommon to see low rent apartments with granite counter tops. Most housing units have a hot tub. And even more modest homes can feature state-of-the-art surround sound with their flat screen displays at very low cost.

Luxury home owners are then faced with a real challenge to make their home stand apart in the competitive marketplace. It’s not surprising then that many owners in Maryland are turning to builders like Coastal Custom Wine Cellars in Baltimore, to help them find the edge. A beautifully designed, temperature controlled, wine cellar or room gives these homes the edge they need, driving up resale prices. They can be enjoyed while the homeowners live there, and truly appreciated when it comes time to sell.

Custom Wine Cellar Doors: Essential Part of a Residential Wine Cellar in Florida

Written by

No residential custom wine cellar in Florida will ever be complete without a beautifully designed and skillfully built custom wine cellar door. A home wine cellar door is an essential part of proper wine storage, because without it, a wine cellar cooling unit would not be able to maintain the temperature and humidity within the storage room at their ideal levels. When choosing a home custom wine cellar door, here are some tips to keep in mind:

1. What Material Do You Want For the Wine Cellar Door

Just like custom wine racks and custom wine cellars, custom wine cellar doors can be made from a variety of materials. The most popular materials used for wine cellar doors are wood, glass and iron. All three are beautiful options for a cellar door.

Wine cellar doors can be made from a variety of materials, such as wood, glass, and iron. Each one has its own advantages. Wooden doors are the most popular kinds. There are various kinds of wood species you can choose from, but the most popular are Mahogany, Pine and Redwood. You can opt to have wooden wine cellar doors that are plain, or that are elaborately designed with carvings. Wine cellars can also be made from glass, but not just any type of glass. Average glass is not a good material for making an airtight door. Insulated or thermal glass panel doors are ideal for custom wine cellars in Orlando, Florida. These glass panels should also be at least double or triple pane, and in between the panes should there should be a vacuum or gas filled space. Lastly, iron is another choice for the material for your wine cellar door. Some people use wrought iron only as an additional material or an accessory to their wooden or glass wine cellar door, but you can opt to have your entire door made from iron as well. You can also have a separate wrought iron cellar door mounted in front of a glass door. This will not only keep your wine storage room airtight, but also secured.

2. Always Check Your Cellar Door for Airtightness

Airtightness is an essential component of custom wine cellars in Orlando. Whether your wine cellar door is made of wood, glass, or iron, you should make sure that it is airtight. When choosing a home wine cellar door in Orlando, Florida, check its frame for weather stripping and its bottom for a sweep. If a door has no frame, it cannot provide the airtightness that is necessary for residential wine cellars in Fl to provide proper wine storage. Without it, the heat load within storage room will be high and you will need to have a bigger wine cellar refrigeration unit to keep the temperature and humidity in the ideal levels.

3. Add Your Personal Style to the Wine Cellar Door

Whether you choose a wooden wine cellar door, a glass wine cellar door or a wrought iron wine cellar door, you should always have it designed according to your personal preference. The design should also match the décor of your residential custom wine cellar in Orlando, Florida.

Residential Custom Wine Cellars Built in Dallas, Texas

Written by

Wine, unlike most beverages, is very sensitive. It can spoil easily if exposed to light or heat. Wine requires specific conditions in order to mature properly. This is why, if you plan to start a wine collection, you need to understand the essentials of wine storage first.

Wine can be stored in a variety of ways. One of the best is through a residential custom wine cellar in Dallas, Texas, with a quality wine cellar refrigeration system installed. In fact, this is the most ideal wine storage solution.

Wine Cellar Spec, a leading wine cellar builder company, designed and built one of the most interesting custom wine cellars in Dallas. This unique wine cellar was built in a home in Frisco, a suburb of Dallas, Texas. Learn more about this home wine cellar by reading through this page.

Home Custom Wine Cellar Wine Racks in Texas by Wine Cellar Spec

In one of the residences in Frisco, Dallas, Texas, Wine Cellar Spec converted a kitchen pantry space under a staircase into a lovely home wine cellar.  The design of this custom wine cellar was made to match the existing home décor and maximize the given space.

For this wine cellar, Wine Cellar Spec used wine racks made from rich Mahogany. In order to accommodate bulk storage, lower double deep solid x bins were designed for the custom wine racks. A wine tasting table top was included too. Since the wine storage room was under a staircase, a full wall of horizontal single deep racks and a waterfall style rack were added, to complement the slanting ceiling.

Lacquers and finishes are important, too, when it comes to wine storage. The wrong type of lacquer or finish can potentially damage your wine collection. In this residential wine cellar project in Dallas, Texas, not only did the wine cellar designer choose a lacquer that would complement the home décor, but also one that was non-aromatic. There are many wooden wine rack finishes that produce an odor that can ruin your wines. It is important to remember that home wine cellars are rooms that are tightly sealed, which means that even the slightest odors can build up after some time. Bad odors can affect not only the aroma, but also the taste of your wines.

Custom Designed Wine Cellar Door

A wine cellar door is another important aspect of a custom wine cellar, because its design and build can affect the consistency of the temperature and humidity inside the storage room. For this home wine cellar in Dallas, Tx, the custom wine cellar door was built with a square top and an arched dual plane glass panel with a wrought iron inset. To match the existing cabinetry and molding style in the client’s home, custom stain was applied and custom made moldings were added.

A wine cellar refrigeration unit provided by US Cellar Systems was installed in this wine cellar in Frisco, Dallas, Texas. More specifically, a Rack Mount 2600 was chosen in order to meet the requirements of the wine storage room. Wine cellars in Texas need an efficient wine cellar cooling unit because the temperature and humidity in the state vary a lot throughout the day and through the seasons. A quality wine cellar cooling system can make sure that the ideal temperature and humidity inside the residential wine cellar are kept at constant levels.

Wine Cellar Refrigeration Systems – Function and Types to Choose From

A temperature controlled environment is a necessary feature for custom home wine cellars Riverside CA, in order to preserve the quality of wines for a prolonged period of time.  Climate control systems help keep the temperature and humidity at constant levels, and ensure that wines are aging under the proper storage conditions in home wine cellars.

Arctic Metalworks Wine Cellar Refrigeration Systems

There are three primary types of wine cellar refrigeration systems:  self-contained systems, ducted self-contained units, and split systems.  A self-contained system is a window-style unit that mounts easily through the wall and vents to an adjoining room.  Ducted, self-contained units make use of ductwork for cool air flow and heat exhaust.  Depending on the installation, this unit helps eliminate noise and eliminates the presence of unwanted equipment inside custom wine cellars.

As the name suggests, split wine cellar refrigeration systems split the evaporator and condenser into two separate units.  This feature allows the condenser to be placed in a remote location, which helps dissipate noise and heat, while the evaporator is installed inside or near the wine cellar.  Both units are connected by either a line set (for ductless split) or ductwork (for ducted split).

Wine Cellar Refrigeration Systems Installation in Riverside CA

This recently completed wine cellar refrigeration installation project in Temecula, California, shows how a cooling system can be efficient and unobtrusive at the same time.  Arctic Metalworks supplied a split system to this Temecula home wine cellars Riverside CA project, which was constructed under the stairwell.

Wine cellar refrigeration systems with a split feature offer versatility in installation options.  Separating the evaporator and the compressor helps promote a quieter wine cellar environment and efficient operation.  The compressor, which is the noisiest part of the refrigeration equipment, can be installed in a remote place (e.g. garage, attic, backyard).

In this particular wine cellar refrigeration system installation project, the Arctic team installed the evaporator unit just above the arched frame.  A specially designed grill cover keeps the cooling unit hidden from view.  The grill is manufactured from the same wood variety as the wine racking systems, in order to create a smooth and uniform appearance.  The condensing unit was placed outdoors to keep it well-ventilated at all times.

The evaporator and condenser of the ductless split refrigeration system are connected by a line set, consisting of small copper tubing and electrical wiring.  This type of cooling equipment is unobtrusive and has aesthetic advantages, since it does not require ductwork systems to circulate air flow.

Apart from the wine cellar refrigeration installation, the Temecula home wine cellars Riverside CA project also involved the installation of a special cooling system for the client’s theater equipment room.  To reduce project cost, the Arctic team installed one condensing unit and attached two separate evaporator coils, one for each room.

In order for a wine cellar refrigeration equipment to function efficiently, the custom wine cellar space must have the following prerequisites in place: proper insulation, a vapor barrier, and an exterior grade door.  These key components ensure that optimum climate conditions are maintained, and thus protect the overall quality of wines.

Established in 1962, Arctic Metalworks specializes in manufacturing and providing the best wine cellar cooling systems in the wine cellar industry.  The company also provides service and maintenance of refrigeration equipment for home wine cellars.  Arctic recently added a wine racking division that focuses on providing handmade wine storage and display racks made from different wood species.

Custom Wine Cellars in Florida must be Designed & Built Properly

Written by

Custom wine cellars in Miami, Florida should be designed and built properly, because these are the safe haven for wines. If they are not properly designed or built, your wines may become damaged. Many times, residential wine cellars in Miami, Florida are poorly designed and built because home owners try to utilize the cheapest ways to have them constructed.

The following are the most common mistakes committed when constructing a residential custom wine cellar in Miami, Florida:

1. Poorly Installed Insulation and Vapor Barriers

One of the very first priorities when building a residential wine cellar in Florida is to apply insulation and vapor barriers, which must be applied correctly. If they are not properly installed, condensation usually occurs between the walls of the cellar. As a result of this dew formation, mold can begin to grow. It is imperative that you hire a professional to install the insulation and vapor barrier for your custom wine cellar, so that this problem is avoided.

2. Wrong Type of Wine Cellar Cooling Unit Installed

A wine cellar refrigeration unit needs to be installed in a custom wine room, so that the ideal temperature and humidity levels for proper wine storage are met. There are various kind of wine cellar cooling units for different wine cellars, such as through-the-wall cooling units, split cooling systems, ducted refrigeration systems, etc.

When it comes to wine cellar refrigeration systems, the 2 most common problems are when:

  1. The cooling unit needs to be returned to the manufacturer for service.

This is can be tedious because you will have to take out the system out of the wall, put it in a box, ship it to the manufacturer and wait for them to return the unit. This is why before you purchase a wine cellar cooling system, check first if the manufacturer is located locally.

  1. The unit cannot efficiently cool the air to the ideal range.

It is imperative that you have a professional calculate the heat load inside your residential wine cellar to make sure that you purchase the appropriate wine cellar cooling unit for your storage room.

3. Having Windows Installed on the Exterior Walls

Many wine cellar owners do not realize that there is no need for a window on the cellar’s exterior wall. Windows allow light and heat to enter the wine storage room, and this can damage your wines.

4. Inefficient Wine Cellar Doors

Wine cellar doors are an integral part of wine storage rooms. They should be well-designed and properly built because they can also affect the temperature and humidity inside the wine room. The custom wine cellar door should be an exterior grade door. It should also have heavy duty weather-stripping and threshold.

If you want to have a window on your wine cellar walls or door, it is imperative that you use insulated glass. Non-insulated glass causes a lot of problems that will consequently ruin your wines.

5. Poor Quality Custom Wine Cellar Racking

Wine racks in Miami, Florida are where your wines will be resting. Some people tend to look for cheaper ways to have wine racks. This is why some wine collectors settle for cheap wine rack kits or have a carpenter construct their racking. These might be cheaper options but they compromise the quality of your wine racks and put at risk the safety of your wine collection.  Custom wine racks in Florida do not need to be expensive but they have to be of good quality.

Quality Wine Cellars, Wine Racks & Other Wine Storage Essentials

Your wine storage room should be made from quality materials. Wine Cellar International is one of the most trustworthy providers of custom wine cellars, wine racks and other wine storage essentials in Florida. They products are not only durable but also cost-effective.

Chicago Custom Wine Cellars Need Quality Wine Cellar Cooling Systems

Written by

Custom wine cellars in Chicago, Illinois are the most ideal storage places for wines. A well-designed and well-built residential wine cellar with a quality wine cellar refrigeration unit installed can provide the ideal conditions for wines to age properly. Baroque Designs LCC, a wine cellar designer and builder in Chicago, teams up with US Cellar Systems to create the best wine storage rooms in Chicago.

Residential Wine Cellar Project in Long Grove, Chicago

A residential custom wine cellar was designed and built in Long Grove, Chicago, Illinois, by Baroque Designs LCC. This wine cellar can accommodate more than 1000 wine bottles. It is unique because of its medieval and classic design.

A billiard table room in the client’s home was renovated and converted in order to construct the custom wine cellar. There was a fireplace in this room, which was sealed up, and insulation and a vapor barrier were installed.

Insulation and vapor barriers are very important when building a custom wine cellar in Illinois. These help make sure that the temperature and humidity inside the wine storage room do not fluctuate constantly. No matter how good a wine cellar refrigeration unit is, if insulation and a vapor barrier are not installed, or are installed poorly, the wines will still end up damaged.

Chicago Wine Cellar Medieval Design

Home wine cellars in Chicago should be designed to reflect the owner’s personality and style. As for this Wine cellar project in Long Grove, the client wanted a classic look with a medieval ambiance. Baroque Designs LCC constructed handmade custom wine racks made from reclaimed barn wood to achieve this look. The wine racks had individual storage and a diamond bin for bulk storage. The four niches were 2’ high and 6” deep in the corners, to showcase magnums. To complete the medieval appearance of this wine cellar, stone work was done up to the 10’ ceiling and a suit of armor was added to the décor.

Moreover, a custom wine cellar door imported from Europe was purpose-built for this medieval design wine storage room. A large classic style wine tasting room with a table and chairs also enhanced the medieval appeal of this residential wine cellar in Chicago, Illinois.

Custom Wine Cellar Cooling Unit Installed

An RM8600 TE Ductless Split Type Refrigeration Unit was installed in this beautifully designed residential wine cellar in Chicago. A licensed HVAC technician installed the cooling unit. The wine cellar refrigeration system and the professional installer were from US Cellar Systems, a leading wine cellar refrigeration company.

Residential Wine Cellar Cooling California Project for Motocross Star Ryan Villopoto

Written by

During the initial design and actual construction of a custom residential wine room, careful attention must be given to several key components, in order to create the right environment for proper wine storage.  The presence of insulation, vapor barrier, and residential wine cellar cooling California are crucial prerequisites in every climate controlled home wine cellars.

Residential Wine Cellar Cooling

Residential Wine Cellar Cooling

Proper insulation helps maintain the ideal temperature levels in a wine storage space, while a vapor barriers inhibit moisture migration, which could otherwise lead to mold infestation.  Home wine cellars refrigeration equipment is designed to help achieve a stable environment by keeping temperature and humidity at constant levels.

Improper installation of these materials will not only incapacitate the room, but also damage the wine cellar cooling equipment and wine collectibles.  Take, for example, the residential wine cellar of motocross superstar Ryan Villopoto in Corona del Mar, California.  Original construction of the wine storage area was done by the general contractor of the home, but the latter’s lack of knowledge on the techniques involved in proper wine cellar design and installation proved damaging to the room.

Residential Wine Cellar Cooling California

Residential Wine Cellar Cooling California

Arctic Metalworks, the wine cellar cooling experts of Southern California, was tasked to improve the design and functionality of Ryan’s existing wine cellar space.  Since most of the supporting structure was improperly installed by the original contractor, the Arctic team had to rebuild the entire wine storage space from scratch in order to create the ideal climate conditions for cellaring wines.

A moisture test conducted by Arctic Metalworks determined that the vapor barrier was applied to the wrong side of the wall.  The residential wine cellar cooling equipment’s condenser unit was squeezed into a drywall box, which caused the compressor to overheat badly.

For this home wine cellars Corona del Mar California project, the Arctic team removed all existing structure, including insulation, vapor barriers, and residential wine cellar cooling California equipment.  To insulate the building envelope, the Arctic team sprayed polyurethane foam into the wall cavity.  Vapor barrier with Italian plaster finish was then applied to the warm side of the wall.

As the premier manufacturer and provider of wine cellar cooling systems, Arctic Metalworks chose a ductless split residential wine cellar cooling unit.  A split system is a type of home wine cellar cooling system that houses the evaporator and condenser separately.  The separated units are connected together by a line set.  This feature allows the noisiest part of the equipment (the condensing unit) to be located remotely; thus promoting a very calm and quiet storage environment.

For this custom residential wine cellar cooling California project, the Arctic team placed the evaporator unit inside the wine room and covered it with a large AC style vent to keep it hidden from view.  They drilled a hole through the interior wall and ran their line set to the yard, where the condenser unit was located.  Placing the condenser outdoors will provide the equipment with proper ventilation and help keep it constantly cool.

Arctic Metalworks installed a digital control system to allow for easy monitoring and accurate reading of thermostat data, and alert the wine collector of any significant changes in temperature.  Since this technological feature is compatible with most mobile devices, daily monitoring of wine collectibles is made possible for owners who are constantly on the go.

Wine Cellar Cooling Tips for Vancouver Wine Cellars

Written by

In the realm of wine collecting, one of the more important things to consider is how to store your wine properly. Wine aging is a delicate and complicated process, thus the proper conditions must be met in order for this to happen without a hitch. In this regard, investing in a good wine cooling system is crucial.

Wine Cooling System – How it Protects Wine

How exactly do wine cellar cooling systems work? A wine cooling system is a device that stabilizes the temperature in Vancouver wine cellars. Temperature should not fluctuate beyond the acceptable range for wine to mature properly before it is served and drank.

The ideal wine storage temperature is 55 degrees Fahrenheit. This can fluctuate, but ideally not more than 2 degrees Fahrenheit.

Aside from regulating the temperature, wine refrigeration systems are designed to help maintain the ideal humidity as well. Humidity levels are important factors that must not be taken for granted.

Low levels of humidity can cause the wine cork to dry up. If the wine seal is compromised, oxygen can seep in and cause the wine to spoil making it undrinkable. If humidity levels are too high, on the other hand, molds can grow in your custom wine room and can damage your wine racks (especially if they are made of wood). The wine labels can deteriorate too if the wine cellar is too damp. The ideal humidity level is between 55%-75%.

What to Consider Before Buying a Wine Cooling System

1. The Capacity of Your Wine Cellar

First you have to check how many bottles of wine you intend to store and the capacity of the space that will be used to accommodate your collection. Also take note if you’re planning to add more bottles to your collection in the future. The greater the number of your wine bottles, the larger the capacity of the wine refrigeration unit you will need.

2. Location

If you intend to place your wine cooling system in a very visible area of your house, you might want to consider its look and design. Take a look at the existing aesthetic of your room and choose an appropriate wine cooling system.

Request a 3D wine cellar design for FREE!

You will also need to consider the amount of space it will take up. Make sure it will blend seamlessly with the rest of the room without appearing too chunky or bulky. If your wine cooling system will be located in the garage, then the design might not be that important.

Besides this, you may want to think about the noise level that a wine cooling system will produce. There are types of wine cooling systems that can be quite noisy, while others keep noise at a minimum or non-existent.

3. Specific Temperature Zones

If you intend to store wine for just a short period of time, single temperature wine cooling units will work best for you. However, if you intend to store wine for a longer time, your best bet is a wine cooling system that allows you to fiddle with its temperature and humidity controls.

4. Budget

The good news is that there are plenty of wine cooling systems out on the market today, and they are designed to fit the requirements of any budget. While you do not want to spend too much on your wine cooling system, remember that the quality of your wines largely depends on how properly they are stored.

If you scrimp on a wine cooling unit initially, this may end up costing you more in the long run if your precious wine bottles get spoiled. So, never compromise quality over price.
